The claim

「Never dye or perm your hair while pregnant」

Verdict

Partly true

Very little modern hair dye is absorbed through the scalp, and there’s no evidence of birth defects. Most guidance says "be cautious, not abstinent": wait past the first trimester, ventilate the room, and limit scalp contact. Highlights that avoid the roots are an easy compromise.
