The claim

「Left-handedness should be corrected early」

Verdict

Myth

Hand preference reflects how the brain lateralises, not a habit you can drill out of a child. The old warning that "an uncorrected lefty will stutter" has no support: a 2024 meta-analysis pooling 52 studies, 2,590 people who stutter and 17,148 controls could not even settle whether stuttering is associated with hand preference at all, let alone caused by it. Forced switching buys nothing and costs the child a sense of failure. Left-handedness is not a defect.
